Meet the Maker

Hi! I am Leah Hooks, the maker behind Crochet with Hooks. I began crocheting in 2020 and officially founded Crochet with Hooks in 2021. I live in Ohio with my husband and two cats; Jack & Sam. Crochet isn't my full-time gig... yet! I also work as a Senior Digital Strategist for a national firm based in Ohio. I take pride in hand-crafting plush crocheted stuffed animals, rattles, and decor that are cuddly, adorable, and made to last. I take my time with each piece and hand-embroider all details, making each item unique and safe for all ages. I released my first pattern in 2024 and am excited to continue creating designs for other crocheters!

FAQs
Plushie FAQ
Can these toys be machine washed?
These crochet toys are machine washable on gentle/handwash settings in cold water using a garment bag. Spot cleaning by hand is recommended to extend the life of your plushie.
What's inside them?
I use Poly-fil to stuff my items unless otherwise noted in the product description.
What are they made of?
I use Bernat Blanket and Premier Chenille Basix yarn with 100% cotton yarn to hand embroider the eyes. I use Poly-fil to stuff my items unless otherwise noted in the product description.
Do you make all of these?
Yes! I make each item by hand myself. Time and attention went into creating everything you see on this website.
Where are you located?
I am based in central Ohio, where I live with my husband and two cats.
Where do you ship?
I ship across the U.S. from this website. If you are looking for international shipping, please contact me or look at my options on Etsy.
What are they for?
The items I make are intended for the sole purpose of enjoyment for any age! These are not made to be dish scrubbies.
Are these made for babies?
While some items are made with babies in mind, I create with the intention of providing joy to all ages. Any items not safe for babies are indicated in the product description, but I hand embroider all eyes with 100% cotton and do not use plastic eyes, making most items safe for all ages.
How long does it take you to make things?
Times vary for each item. My largest item takes about 16 hours to complete, and my smallest items can be completed in about 15 minutes each. This does not factor in the time it takes to source materials, gather ideas for new items, take pictures and market products, upload items to the website, apply to and set up at markets, or many other aspects of the business that add to my overall time investment.
How do you price your products?
I try to price my items in a way that allows me to make minimum wage for the time spent actually producing the item and help to cover cost of materials and other costs of doing business. I do not mark up prices like mass produced stores do, so there is not much room for running any sales. Each item takes my time and attention, and no part is made by machine.
Can I make a return or exchange?
No, I do not currently accept returns or exchanges. Each item is carefully inspected upon completion. If you have an issue with your order, please reach out as soon as possible and I will work with you to find a solution.
How can I track shipping of my order?
All physical orders are shipped from Ohio. Once a package leaves my shop, Crochet With Hooks is not responsible for lost or stolen packages or shipments delivered to an incorrect address. Customers are responsible for ensuring that all shipping information is correct when the order is placed. Product tracking and shipping information will be emailed to you at the time of shipment. Lost packages are responsibility of the shipping provider. If your package does get lost, please let me know and I will do everything I can to help.
Pattern FAQ
What kind of yarn do you use?
I mostly use Bernat Blanket and Premier Chenille Basix yarn with 100% cotton yarn to hand embroider the eyes. Each pattern lists all materials you will need to complete the pattern.
Where do you get your pattern ideas?
I get most of my ideas from looking at nature and real, live animals! I also find inspiration from looking at trends in what is being advertised to children.
Where else do you sell your patterns?
I have patterns listed for sale on Etsy and some on Ko-Fi if you would prefer to purchase through those platforms.
Are these patterns beginner friendly?
No. Most of my patterns are listed as Intermediate, meaning that you will need to have a basic understanding of amigurumi crochet concepts to complete the pattern. I do provide written instructions for each type of stitch used in each pattern, but beginners may need additional support from external sources and practice prior to completing these patterns.
Do your patterns come with video instructions?
No. Each pattern includes step-by-step photo instructions, but not complete video instructions. Supplemental video assets are coming soon to help explain certain techniques used.
Can I get a refund on a pattern?
No, digital downloads of patterns are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
How can I download my pattern files?
All patterns are delivered as a digital download.
Can I sell finished items with your patterns?
Yes! You are welcome to sell finished items handmade by you using my patterns. You cannot use any of my patterns to produce wholesale quantities of my copyright protected designs. Please be sure to credit @CrochetWithHooks as the pattern designer in ALL social media posts and digital product listings made using my patterns.
